Tribune headlines are about the release of wounded and sick POWs: "Japanese do Filipinos great favor."

It is to be noted that the above are the special favors of the Imperial Japanese Army, to promote happiness and welfare of the Filipino people, and also to reciprocate their sincere cooperation and contribution they have shown under the Military Administration of the Imperial Japanese Army.
If, however, they do not faithfully observe various regulations relating to the provisional release and oath, and especially if they talk or act in an anti-Japan way, they will not only be condemned by God on moral ground, but also will be dealt with in accordance with Japanese Martial law.

There's three ways of looking at this: the prisoners are too much trouble to care for; they're too ill to ever become a threat again; or it's just more propaganda. To wit, the Editorial says: "Our natural sense of gratitude shall not fall us in this deeply touching gesture of generosity made by the Imperial Japanese forces." Well, if they ever release able-bodied Filipino soldiers, I might be grateful too.
