Worked a bit at re-pricing goods in the morning and played some softball in the afternoon — mostly limping around third base. Plenty of Japanese planes were overhead, mostly old-fashioned single-engine ones. Sharp clashes have been reported in Bataan with bayonet fighting checking Japanese advances. VoF didn't come through today — at least I couldn't get them. Luis Campos was one who consistently defended Japanese actions...until today. He said he was "disgusted" at their behavior, which he concluded was due to "the lack of intelligence of their soldiers, inane propaganda methods, and bribe-taking officers." The clincher came when he had to get off his bike at Mendiola and bow twice at the sentry. Spanish blood still boiling, he mentioned that if the sentry had slapped him he would've fought back. |
