Pedaled to the store to open up as Dad insisted on walking to the market. On the way I picked up a copy of the Sunday News — a Japanese paper even before the war — carrying four pictures of the Pearl bombing. I was amazed to see the ships lined up like ducks in a shooting gallery. The Tribune said MacArthur’s troops are in a general retreat, while KGEI said the Japanese were taking a rest. All Manga Avenue was out on the street this afternoon learning to ride their bikes and taking kids for rides. A couple of really cute girls were about too. It was funny to see Mr. Lombek being pushed by his servants, and Mr. Campos blaming the lack of spring on the seat for his ending up in the ditch. |
